Humans have, from our earliest days, exhibited a tendency to migrate. Not unlike many bird species, an anxious energy periodically permeates groups of people. Unlike birds, however, the direction that energy drives is so often untested by time, and leads to unfamiliar environs. Simultaneously driven to new landscapes while secure in only the old ones, we transform what lies ahead to our image of what was left behind. In doing so, we find ourselves perpetually in surroundings that are neither natural nor familiar - a hybridization of self and scenery that spawns another cycle of anxiety and the need to seek new places. We now struggle to find new places, and the old places we remember also cease to exist. If we, and our supporting environment are to survive, a true zugunruhe must occur - one that sets us on a path to a better world and set of living conditions. This site will offer periodic thoughts and observations on the journey we must take.
